First off, no batteries required because this will recharge on any USB outlet. That is very handy and saves a bundle in throw-away batteries.
The red light has a rapid blinking option which is super handy by daylight in traffic. It lets the motorists wake up and pay attention that a bicycle is in their midst. It also has a slower blinking light, very useful at night as an attention grabber.
The front light is bright enough to ride by should you get caught outside after dark on your bicycle, which I do sometimes. It quickly removes so you can use it as a flashlight too.
Both lights quick connect and disconnect easily for charging.
This light kit is very handy with well thought out options. It even came with two charging cords. I think one cord with two outlets for each light would have been handier, but having 2 cords is a nice thoughtful addition.
I use this everyday on my "Day 6" semi recumbent comfort bicycle.
