The Good, the Bad, the Ugly (And Some Comedy too)
The vendor described this as "easy to install with standard E27 socket and brilliant all metal housing, no special lamp-base necessary". I had never heard of an E27 socket in America, but the base of this fits a common household American style light socket.
The actual bulb is much larger than an old standard light bulb, so the socket you choose will need to be unencumbered. This makes for simplicity, no special wiring needed at all. Just screw it into a common household fixture.
It lit up with all LEDs working. Time will tell how it works for growing indoors. In the interim it puts out nice ambient lighting. The plants thus far seem happy enough.
The current description on Amazon could certainly use some English corrections for clarity. Such as "No ultraviolet light, infrared radiation and zero emissions protect the encironment well."
I believe the vendor meant to write "environment".
While LED lights are a huge energy saving method that are friendly on your monthly electricity costs, keep in mind, that LED lights such as this one can still put out heat, so it's not for 24 hour use. Besides your plants won't like that anyhow.
The ribbed design and aluminum housing are thoughtfully placed for good heat dissipation when used correctly.
The vendor's honest description of "Wide Application: Suitable for indoor garden, pot plants... " gave us quite a giggle. Many folks refer to pot plants as growing marijuana. Whether the vendor meant pot plants or potted plants, I have no idea. But suffice it to say, this will help grow herbs or potted plants of any kind.
It reminded me of being at an overseas party with people from several different countries. One lady who owned a home with a stairway to a flat roof where she was growing vegetables, described how she was growing "pot plants" on top of the roof. As she used this same term over and over, some of the party goers laughed and giggled, saying they would be right over to see her! She was confused about the laughter but flattered as to why so many people were interested in her garden until someone explained she meant to say she was "growing potted plants" on her roof rather than growing marijuana (pot plants).
OK, enough of the good, the bad, the comedy, here's the ugly...
Our light bulb arrived with a smashed-in dent around the fins towards the base. No idea if this was lack of quality control or a shipping mishap. The outside of the shipping box was not dented on arrival. In spite of this, the bulb thus far, seems to be performing fine.
I received this product as a free sample for evaluation and reviewing. The vendor has not influenced, modified or edited my comments.
We gave this 4 out of 5 stars, only taking a star off because the bulb arrived dented and the vendor needs to correct and doublecheck their spelling and English for clarity in an American market.
